For the first time in 10 years there is going to be a direct flight between London and Bogota. The Colombian national carrier, Avianca, will start flying direct from London’s Heathrow airport on July 3rd. There are going to be four flights per week and it's great news for any UK based tourists thinking of holidaying there and of course for tourism in Colombia.
The announcement came on 4th February from UK Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg, who was on a trade mission to Colombia at the time. He also tipped Colombia as one of the world’s most promising economies and said the new route will help the UK to reach its bilateral trade target of £4billion by 2020. Resuming this route has been in the pipeline for the last 5 years but a lack of airport hub capacity means Britain is being held back by not being able to forge links with growing economies.
This new flight will open up Colombia as a holiday destination to many more potential visitors. Bogota is the gateway to a fascinating country where all types of trips and experiences are possible. You can head into the jungle, visit colonial towns, soak up the sun on the Caribbean coast, be enchanted by Cartagena or spend some time relaxing in the Colombian coffee country. In the Zona Cafetera you will find beautiful haciendas and fincas which have been converted into lovely hotels and should always be part of a Colombian itinerary.
