Peru offers such a wide range of experiences it is hard to know which ones to choose. There are snow capped mountains, volcanoes, jungle, Inca cities, lakes and ancient geoglyphs amongst many others. There are plenty of pre-Columbian Incan vestiges to beseen but it is also a place where modern influences make an impact.
Although Peru is obviously well known for its ancient culture it is also a fascinating blend of Spanish influence and local tradition. For the visitor there is a taste of everything that the continent has to offer including the incredible range of landscapes and culture found.It is believed that over 80% of the worlds different ecosystems are found here which makes it a wonderful destination for the nature enthusiast. Here you can find the Andes, the Amazon rainforest and the coastal desert.
Peru famously boasts among its many treasures, the spectacular Machu Picchu which is found on a hilltop in the Andean foothills close to the Inca capital of Cusco. Nearby there is also the Sacred Valley of the Incas, where there are many other Inca citadels to be discovered. There is also the breathtaking Lake Titicaca, which at 3,811m is the world’s highest navigable lake. For those wanting action there is plenty to keep them occupied including river rafting, horse riding, trekking and mountain biking.
Peru is a wonderful country to visit; it has a rich heritage of history and tradition, is an archaeologists delight, has delicious food, is considered by many as a mystical destination and of course has outstanding natural biodiversity. The visitor will leave captivated by its traditions, diversity, cultural values and people. One visit will never be enough as there will always be somewhere and something new to discover.
